Recently, China Shengmu Organic Dairy Co., Ltd. was awarded the "2024 Hong Kong Green and Sustainable Finance Award" in the category of Outstanding Green and Sustainable Loan Institution in the Sustainable Development sector at the 35th Anniversary Forum and Celebration organized by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA). Zhang Jiawang, President of China Shengmu Organic Dairy Co., Ltd., was honored as "Outstanding Green and Sustainable Financial Development Leader," and the heads of relevant departments at China Shengmu were recognized as "Outstanding Green and Sustainable Financial Strategy Experts." This honor marks an important milestone for China Shengmu in advancing green finance and sustainable development.
The event brought together numerous experts and industry leaders from the fields of sustainable development and ESG to discuss ways to promote green and sustainable financial development. The forum, themed "Sustainable Finance, ESG, and Climate Adaptation," delved into how to integrate green development concepts into the financial system.
On June 25, 2024, China Shengmu successfully issued the country's first nature-based commercial ESG-linked loan. The loan, totaling RMB 100 million with a two-year term, was provided by Bank of China Inner Mongolia Branch and certified by Equator Environmental Evaluation Co., Ltd. This loan not only opens new avenues for ESG financing in China but also represents a new milestone in green finance practice.
This initiative reflects China Shengmu’s active response to the national strategy of "promoting high-quality development" and its firm commitment to "actively implementing the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda." The close collaboration between China Shengmu and financial institutions further strengthens the company’s sense of responsibility in promoting ecological civilization and provides a new financial support model for its sustainable development.
Additionally, the successful issuance of this green loan follows China Shengmu's successful issuance of the country's first social responsibility bond in 2022, once again demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable development through concrete action. China Shengmu will continue to leverage its extensive experience and expertise in ESG to offer more sustainable development solutions for society and contribute to building a greener, more harmonious, and sustainable future world.
China Shengmu actively responds to the national green development policies, realizing a deep integration of finance and sustainable development. This initiative will further promote China Shengmu’s investments in environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance, guiding financial resources to support the company’s green transformation.
As China’s largest organic dairy company, China Shengmu is an integrated desert organic cycle raw milk enterprise, with its business covering the entire dairy industry value chain, including pasture cultivation, dairy cattle breeding, and raw milk production. In July 2014, Shengmu successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code: 1432), becoming the world’s first organic raw milk stock and the first domestic raw milk brand to obtain both China and EU organic certification. The company focuses on high-quality organic raw milk sourced from safe milk source bases, practicing organic farming and breeding, and maintaining strong cooperative relationships with downstream dairy enterprises.
Through its model combining desert pasture industry and organic dairy farming, China Shengmu has created a complete organic ecological desert management system based on "organic pasture planting and organic dairy farming." This initiative not only represents a bold attempt to develop desert natural resources but also provides new ideas and pathways for global desertification management.
Through continuous desert ecological transformation, the Ulan Buh Desert has now formed a regional microclimate. Since 2014, the desert has experienced nine instances of dense fog and, in recent years, several instances of snowfall, creating the rare phenomenon of a white desert. These climate changes have led to a continuous enrichment of biodiversity. In addition to pasture and Chinese medicinal herbs, plants such as alfalfa, oats, corn, and dandelion are now widely growing in the former desert areas. Animals such as lizards, foxes, wild rabbits, and wild goats are increasingly frequent, and even waterfowl, egrets, and owls have begun to settle in this desert oasis.
